Lower School Curriculum

The Lower School strives to enable each child to reach his or her fullest potential as a learner by providing up-to-date instructional strategies, programs, and materials. Instructional activities are designed to be developmentally appropriate and build the knowledge, skills, and attitudes students need to be successful, contributing members of a changing and global society. The Lower School provides a well-balanced, challenging program that integrates academics across the curriculum. Students have classes in reading, language arts, math, science, social studies, Hebrew and Jewish studies, art, music, physical education, library and technology. The curriculum of each discipline is continually evaluated and modified to reflect best practice.

The focus of our program is the education of the whole child, including the development of self-discipline and respect of oneself and others. Our goal is to empower our students with a thirst for knowledge, as well as a model of life skills they will need to become responsible individuals and lifelong learners.

Our teachers meet weekly for grade level curricular discussions to ensure that each student has the same exposure to the curriculum, participate in Professional Learning Communities where student work is examined and discussed, and participate in professional development opportunities that improve teaching and learning at the Day School.
