LS: Reporting & Conferencing

Formal conferences are held three times a year in the Lower School.

In early September, parents are given the opportunity to participate in an intake conference with their child’s general and Jewish Studies teachers. The purpose of intake conferences is twofold. First, it gives parents the opportunity to communicate their hopes and dreams for their child as she/he enters a new school year. Second, it allows parents to share important information about their child to ensure a successful partnership between school and home. Intake conferences take the form of pre-arranged phone calls or face-to-face meetings.

Subsequent conferences are held in both November and March, directly after report cards are distributed. An additional report card will also be issued at the end of the year but will not be followed by a conference. At these conferences teachers and parents have the opportunity to discuss their child as a learner in terms of how she/he learns best, the knowledge and skills she/he has gained, the progress she/he has made through her/his learning experiences, and to set goals as they look ahead.
In addition to report cards and formal conferences, teachers will keep parents informed throughout the year through weekly newsletters, individual emails and phone calls. Additionally, Lower School parents are encouraged to seek out their children’s teachers whenever they have something they wish to discuss.
