Middle School Arts
To Learn, To Value, To Do
ללמוד, להעריך, לעשות
We have an incredibly rich array of arts opportunities at the Day School. We put a strong value on the arts, evidenced by the exposure each child has to participate in both visual and creative arts as a discipline, and also arts that are woven into the curriculum and extracurricular activities. We take great pride in the community support that we have for our arts program. Every child at the Day School develops an artistic side to his or her identity. We encourage the risk taking that is inherent in being artistic. We are proud of every moment of artistic creation!
BZAEDS ON BROADWAY is a two-year musical theatre program for seventh and eighth grade students, and is a part of the Middle School Performing Arts Department’s core curriculum. The seventh grade year involves mounting a one-act musical, and the second year concludes with a large-scale production, the Morton Reisman Eighth Grade Operetta.
This sequential performing arts program helps develop our students' self-confidence and provides an avenue to further strengthen group identity. The focus is on the creative process as students work together to perform a musical. Working on a grade-wide production allows each student to cultivate important skills such as collaboration, time management, and discipline. The students in both shows spend months preparing for their roles by memorizing dialogue and music, developing their characters, learning choreography, and expanding their vocal abilities. These production opportunities are unique at the Day School because all students in the grade are required to participate. This helps those students who wouldn’t normally gravitate towards the spotlight, and really is a growing experience for all students. Expectations are high, and cast members commit to their performance experience with dedication and enthusiasm.
