Middle School: Experiential Learning
To Learn, To Value, To Do
ללמוד, להעריך, לעשות
In each grade, students have opportunities to learn outside of their classroom walls. Here are just a few examples:
Fifth Grade: Students participate in a Shabbaton at Camp Chi in Wisconsin. They take advantage of Chicago’s Field Museum and Oriental Institute as they learn about ancient civilizations. Throughout the year, fifth graders participate in service learning activities with "buddies" at the Lieberman Home in Skokie as they explore responsibilities to our elderly.- Sixth Grade: Students travel to Camp Timber-lee for a new outdoor science experience as well as to work on teamwork and community skills. Sixth graders also explore portraits at the Art Institute, as well as many trips to social service agencies around the issue of Hunger – Inspiration Café, Maot Chitim, First Slice, Growing Home and Heifer.
Seventh Grade: Seventh graders travel to our state capitol of Springfield, where they experience political advocacy, explore leadership and meet with legislators. Seventh graders work in the forest preserves to take care of our environment and have relationships with local agencies, like the Sierra Club, to explore the environmental issues of our day and how we can use our leadership to make the environment cleaner and safer.- Eighth Grade: The final year of study at the Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School culminates in the Tiyul, a trip to Israel during which students have the unique opportunity to live and explore the many Jewish ideas, history, and sites they have studied throughout their years at the school. Eighth graders work with agencies in the city of Chicago, like HAIS and Interfaith Ministries to learn about the issues of immigrants coming into our city, as well as connecting to new immigrants in Israel when they go on their Tiyul.
